Understanding the Enforcement Process
At each stage of the enforcement process, the local authority concerned may write to you.
Sometimes these items of correspondence will be called a ‘Notice’ but
they may just look like a letter. You may also receive correspondence from
the Parking and Traffic Appeals Service if you have appealed to us.
The main thing to remember is that each document is important and should
receive your immediate attention.
Please note: the Parking and Traffic Appeals Service is unable to consider appeals against penalty charge notices or parking tickets issued by private companies, unless they have been appointed by the local authority to act on their behalf in decriminalised enforcement. If you have received such a ticket, you are advised to seek independent legal advice or contact the company/organisation concerned to investigate procedures for challenging the charge.
Because different regulations can apply, the enforcement process varies according to the type of contravention concerned.
